"Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, 'Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home to be your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name, Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
What would you have done if you found out your fiance was pregnant? Would you feel ashamed, angry, betrayed or rejected? Would you break up with them and never want to see them again?  Would it take an angel of the Lord to help you understand the situation better?  I know I would and I can imagine that Joseph may have experienced these same emotions and thoughts as well.
I am amazed that Joseph thought of Mary's feelings and well being more than his own. He wanted to just quietly get a divorce and not allow Mary to experience any shame or ridicule. Joseph was righteous and wanted to do right by Mary. He loved her and wanted to protect her.
The angel convinced Joseph to go ahead and take Mary as his wife. God wanted Joseph to be Jesus' stepdad. He wanted Joseph to help raise Jesus to understand the sacrifice in being the savior of the world. He trusted Joseph to walk with Mary through this unique experience.
Is God asking you to be like Joseph and walk through a challenging situation that you may not fully understand? Is God asking you to walk out His plan even though you do not fully comprehend its full meaning? Is God asking you to simply trust Him with all the miraculous details? I believe if He is then like with Joseph, God will give you the vision, trust and faith to do what seems to be impossible.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Help me to trust you with the responsibility of introducing Jesus to the world. I need the faith and courage to be like Joseph and embrace your calling even when it seems impossible. Thank you for always being with me in every circumstance of life. In Jesus' name, Amen!
