Ecclesiastes 4:9-10-"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!" (NIV)
Do you have a close friend? Someone who is always there when you fall down? A person who knows all your faults and shortcomings and still likes you? A person you can be yourself around and tell you the truth when you are wrong? If you do then you are a very blessed man. If you don't then I want to encourage you to find one.
King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 4:10-"If one falls down, his friend can help him up!" Solomon recognized the importance of having a friend who will always be there in good times and in bad. Someone who will help you when life has knocked you down. Someone to support you when you feel like giving up. Someone who will look us in the eye and tell us when we have messed up. Someone who will pray for us when things seem hopeless. Someone who genuinely loves and cares for us.
Do you have someone like that in your life? I have been fortunate to have a close friend who has always been there for me in both the good times and the difficult times. He has been my friend basically all my life. I don't get together with him all the time, but I know if I need someone in a time of crisis, he will be there for me.
On August 10, 1980, I met a new friend. Someone who is with me all the time. He helps me when I feel lonely and encourages me when I feel hopeless. He is someone who I can tell all my problems to and doesn't judge me. He tells me when I am being foolish and supports me when I am weak. He is a friend at all times and always wants what's best for me. My friend would love to be your friend as well. Who is this friend you ask? His name is Jesus. John 15:15 says, (Jesus Speaking) "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you." (NIV)
Jesus longs to be your best friend. He wants to show you the way to eternal life. He desires to forgive you for all your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. He is one person you can always trust. He is one person that will never leave you. He wants to help you become the best person you can be. He wants you to experience His unconditional love.
Prayer-Dear Lord Jesus. I need you. I desire to know you. I need you as my Savior and my friend. I confess to you that I have sinned. I ask you to forgive me for my sins. I ask you to come into my life and be my Lord. Lead me from this day forward. Today, I ask you to not only be my Savior but also my best friend. Thank you, Lord, for giving my life and life abundantly. In your name I pray. Amen!
Dedication-I want to dedicate this blog to all my friends at 3B Fellowship. You will never know what each of you mean to me. You have shown me what it means to be a follower of our great friend Jesus Christ. There have been times you have been an example of Jesus in my life. Not only do we need Jesus, but we need each other. A friend once said that they needed "Jesus with skin on." Thank you for being friends who do, "Stick closer than a brother." (Proverbs 18:24b, NIV).
