Exodus 13:19-"Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the sons of Israel swear an oath. He had said, 'God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place."
This passage of scripture is a fulfillment of the request Joseph made to the sons of Israel, his brothers in Genesis 50:24-25. Joseph had a confidence in God's faithfullness in keeping his promise he made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Israel). He knew that the day of the Exodus was coming and he did not want to be buried in Egypt.
God is faithful to us who beleive in Him and take him at his word. How about you? Has God given you a promise and everything around you seems bleak and His promise could never come true? Are you looking at your circumstance and feeling hopeless? Remember that God is faithful and will always keep His promises.
When my youngest daughter was ten months old she started having seizures. At first they diagnosed them as Febrile Seizure due to high fevers. In April 1994 the diagnosis changed due to her having a seizure that lasted three hours. She was in ICU for several days and her diagnosis changed from Febrile seizures to a seizure disorder. She was place on medication and continued to have break through seizures throughout the year.
During this time God gave my wife and I a promise that she would be healed. When we received that promise we thought she would never have another seizure. This was not the case. She continued to have seizures every so often which was discouraging to us. We would tell people that our daughter hadn't had a seizure in several months and thought this was it, the fulfillment of God's promise. Instead, she would have another seizure and the doubts would come back. It was an emotional and spiritual roller coaster ride.
Our daughter had her last seizure in April of 2004. This was over ten years from her first seizure and when God gave us His promise of healing. Ten years! But, thanks be to God that He is faithful in keeping His promises. All the doubts and fears we lived with for those ten years desolved when the doctor's indicated she would not have anymore seizures.
My daughter is going to celebrating her thirty-third birthday this months. We constantly rejoice and celebrate her life and the miracle she is to us. Just like Joseph, who put his faith in God's promise to lead his people out of the bondage of Egypt, we are also thankful for God's promise to heal our beautiful daughter.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank you for your faithfulness in keeping your promises to us your children. Sometime your promises are fulfilled in an instant and sometimes it may take several months or years. In every circumtance, help us look to you and trust that you are faithful in any and every circumstance. You are an awesome God and it is humbling to be called your children. In Jesus' name, Amen!
